PDC presented initial findings from our collaborative project with national stakeholders. We also conducted hands-on training with Madagascar’s national disaster management agency, Bureau National de Gestion des Risques et des Catastrophes (BNGRC), focusing on PDC's multi-hazard early warning and risk intelligence platform, DisasterAWARE. Sharing the latest PDC Event Brief for the March 28th magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar, which shows expanded areas of intense shaking and increased exposure. An estimated 38.7 million people were exposed to moderate to violent shaking across the affected region, with 37.7 million in Myanmar, 1.08 million in Thailand, and 3,460 in China.

PDC’s refined impact estimates are now available for Myanmar following the recent M7.7 earthquake which has badly affected the country. The Joint Analysis of Disaster Exposre (JADE) estimates, produced in partnership with United Nations OCHA and World Food Programme, offer a detailed breakdown of exposure within the most heavily impacted regions of Myanmar.
PDC will continue to support disaster management and humanitarian assistance partners operating within the affected areas during the ongoing response.

PDC is assisting partners and monitoring the current situation after major earthquakes, M7.7 and 6.4 rocked Myanmar and Thailand, causing the collapse of a skyscraper under construction in Bangkok. PDC's initial impact estimates indicate potentially severe impacts to the population and critical infrastructure in Myanmar.
We will continue to monitor the situation and collaborate with the humanitarian assistance and response community as more information develops.

A new, explosive eruption was reported yesterday for Indonesia’s Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara province, resulting in evacuations and generating an ash plume that reached as high as 8 km above the crater.
According to PDC's Advanced Analytics and automated Event Brief, approximately 22,000 people are located within 10 km of the volcano. Ethiopia's Afar region was impacted by a magnitude 5.5 earthquake yesterday. According to PDC's automated Event Brief and advanced analytics, an estimated 94,200 people (20,100 households) were exposed to Moderate or higher levels of shaking intensity. Light shaking was felt as far as Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital and largest city.
Since late 2024, increased seismic activity has impacted the southern Afar and northern Oromia regions, displacing tens of thousands of people.

Following recent impacts to northern Madagascar and Mozambique, Tropical Cyclone Jude is now aiming towards southern Madagascar. Landfall is anticipated within the next 2 days.
According to PDC's automated Event Brief and advanced analytics, an estimated 91,300 people may become exposed to damaging winds along the current forecast track. Madagascar has been impacted by several cyclones since December 2024, starting with Tropical Cyclone Chido.
